We are seeking a creative and motivated Carbon Market Analyst, to contribute to developing and providing carbon products to serve carbon markets. Working with the Business Development, Policy and Product Development teams, this role will be a great fit for someone who feels passionately about 1PointFive’s vision, with a creative and analytical mindset, and who wants to be a part of a fast-paced culture where contributions are noticed. This position will be located out of our Vancouver, BC office.


Position Scope:
Reporting to the Solutions Development Specialist, this is a role responsible for market research and analysis in support of policy and business development efforts.
  • Provide ongoing research support for business and corporate development efforts, with a focus on regulatory and voluntary carbon markets.
  • Integration/coordination across 1PointFive’s business development, policy and product development teams to ensure effective engagement with external customers, including interacting with 1PointFive’s technical teams to ensure integrity and consistency of information.

Responsibilities:
The main responsibility for the Carbon Market Analyst will be to manage the inflow of business-related inquiries and gather appropriate market/client data to streamline strategic planning processes for 1PointFive’s business development and policy teams. This role is divided into two primary categories. ­

Business Development:
  • Perform research and gather data on markets for 1PointFive’s products and services, including regulatory and voluntary carbon markets, low carbon fuels markets and global policy support for decarbonization more broadly.
  • Analyze market data, present findings, and provide timely support to aid in business development pursuits and corporate development efforts.
  • Generate support materials for plant developer engagement, BD presentations, briefing notes, and other materials as needed.
  • Research and develop competitive intelligence about leads, suspects, and prospects.
  • Develop presentations, support preparing material for proposals.
Policy:
  • Monitor and analyze developments in energy, climate and low carbon policy with a focus on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and Direct Air Capture (DAC) for US/EU/Canadian markets.
  • Communicate emerging trends and key policy developments to Business Development and Product Development teams. 
  • Maintain the team’s document library for key policy developments, consultation responses and position papers.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or finance
Experience & Capabilities:
3-7 years experience in engineering, finance, technology development, and/or carbon markets and accounting.  Experience in some, or all, of the following are an asset:
  • Product development and processes, especially carbon clean technology and climate solutions
  • Carbon standards and methodologies and their applications
  • Market research and analysis
  • Interaction with potential leads and/or targets
  • Product development and processes, especially carbon clean technology and climate solutions
  • Carbon standards and methodologies and their applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors (aviation, maritime, heavy transport)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role & operation of carbon registries and carbon accounting/ tracking
  • Explaining/articulating complicated technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • “Swiss-army knife” capabilities; resourceful in finding efficiency improvement measures
  • Collaborate well in a team environment
  • Thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset) and tackling challenging problems.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in Excel
  • Quantitative analytical skills and working knowledge of statistics
  • Data literacy, data systems, software-based automation, and analytics skills an asset

Compensation and Benefits
1PointFive offers a competitive compensation package including extended health benefits. Base Salary for this Intermediate level role is $74,800 to $106,000 with additional bonus pay. 1PointFive also provides benefits and paid time off.
