Position Scope
Reporting to the Manager, Capital Projects, the Construction Manager (CM) will be responsible to selecting and overseeing Contractor construction activities. In addition to Contractor coordination, the CM will review and approve the installation of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment at Carbon Engineering’s Innovation Center (CEIC) located in Squamish, BC. Specifically, the Construction Manager will work closely with the project team and design engineers to ensure the equipment was fabricated and installed according to design and that the installation meets all the applicable codes, standards, and Carbon Engineering requirements.

Carbon Engineering is continuously iterating and innovating on our technology and as part of the team they will work on projects ranging in size from thousands to millions of dollars.


The successful candidate will be based in Squamish, B.C. 


Responsibilities
General Duties:

  • CE representatives for contractor/craft on site.
  • Coordinate sign off of all Contractor Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s) and Pre-commissioning activities with discipline leads and/or CE Maintenance personnel.
  • Inspect the work of contractors as it is being installed and once it is complete.
  • Facilitate the constructability/planning reviews.
  • Identify, capture, and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.
  • Review Contractor work progress on daily basis and facilitate weekly progress meetings.
  • Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to Construction contract progress and status.
  • Support Project Managers in developing the project execution strategy.
  • Responsible for the construction execution strategy, Responsible for the construction execution plan and overall Construction Schedule, include an integrated subcontractor three-week lookahead (3WLA) schedule during Construction.
  • Responsible for Contractor Change Order management and tracking.
  • Contract administration and tracking RFI’s, Submittals, site instructions, etc.
  • Coordination with Engineers and technical inspections responsible for each design.
  • Contribute to the development of work plans/sequences, schedules, Project Execution & Contracting Strategy, Tactics Plan and Risk Analysis, in particular covering construction and Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS).
Contractor Management:
  • Pre-qualify contractors with CE Purchasing team prior to selection for construction contracts at the CEIC.
  • Prepare construction scope of work for RFPs in conjunction with the CE Purchasing team.
  • Coordinate all onsite and offsite construction activities to monitor compliance with building code, environmental and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate third party construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Review Contractor requirements for tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with Operations for:
    • Permit to Work and any associated specialty permits
    • Lock-out Tag-out (LOTO)
    • Communication of daily site activities for deconflicting work areas.
    • Coordinate inspections, hires inspectors, schedule inspections with plant operations.
    • Conduct walkdowns with Contractor to ensure installations meet specifications & standards, identify deficiencies and manages punch list for handover and acceptance by CEIC Plant Area Owners.
  • Coordinate with other Engineering or trades discipline Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) internal or external for:
    • QA of contractor QC work.
    • Review contractor quality documentation, turnover packages and redline drawings.
    • Lead pre-commissioning planning and activities prior to Pre-Startup Safety Review.

Safety
  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
  • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all environmental safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Maintain the plant and construction areas in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations including site cleanliness and housekeeping.
  • ​​Ensure contractor safety standards and review project safety plans.

Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
  • Degree, Diploma, or Certification from an accredited institution in a technical trade, technologist, engineering, construction or a related field.
Experience:
  • 4 to 8 years of relevant work in the field
  • Previous work on brownfield plant upgrade projects is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (MS Excel, MS Project, etc.)
  • Familiar with SharePoint

Offers and Benefits
Carbon Engineering offers a competitive compensation package including extended health benefits. Base Salary for an Intermediate to Advanced level role is $78,030 to $117,000 with additional bonus pay.
