Position Scope

As a Process Simulation Engineer, you are responsible for the development of process simulations, process engineering deliverables and additional objectives as defined by your management chain. Your focus will be the improvement of the steady state process simulations and simulation tools used by the engineering team, develop process simulations of new processes or unit operations, and complete typical process engineering tasks on projects ranging in scale from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of millions.

 

Responsibilities

  • Improve CE’s simulation capabilities through optimization of existing simulations, identification of areas of improvement, and development of new simulations.
  • Analyze/model various process designs to drive down the cost of the plant.
  • Support projects through completion of process engineering deliverables
  • Support the commissioning of projects you helped engineer by conducting site reviews and inspections.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce CO2 capture cost and improve process efficiency either directly or through enabling improvements in the work of other engineering disciplines.
  • Collaborate with direct manager and project managers to set targets for simulation development, and deliverables.
  • Provide progress against milestones/deadlines to management.
  • Abide by the standards and policies of Carbon Engineering and the projects you are assigned.
  • Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Engineering Team; a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
  • Mentor, support, and guide junior engineers in their professional development to ensure they develop both the technical understanding and personal fit needed to excel in their position.
  • Expect to be onsite in Squamish, BC at least 2 days/week and more frequently during commissioning/testing periods.

 

Education and Experience

Education

  • B.Sc. in Chemical or Process Engineering or Equivalent

Experience:

  • P.Eng registered or able to register with EGBC and stamp engineering documents
  • 4 to 8 years of experience in process engineering, chemical plant projects, or chemical plant operation

 

Key Competencies

  • Process simulation experience preferably with Aspen Plus
  • Familiarity with typical process engineering deliverables (Design Basis, BFDs, Process Models, Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs, Process control philosophy)
  • Familiarity with cooling towers, precipitation reactors, filtration, centrifuges, solids handling, calciners, CO2 purification, or CO2 compression is desired but not required
  • Programming skills especially in Python is desired but not required
