Position Scope

The Operations Trainer is an experienced and passionate Operations professional who will be responsible to establish and maintain a high standard of competency within the organization, primarily focusing on Operations. Through collaboration with Carbon Engineering Leadership, HSE, Operations and Maintenance disciplines you will develop and administer an effective and sustainable training program, as well as assess effectiveness and engage in continuous improvement initiatives. As the training program becomes embedded in the Operations organization there will an opportunity to expand this program to include Maintenance, Engineering and the broader organization.

This position is a full-time, 40hrs/week position.  This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule to offer a flexible work schedule. 

This role is based in Squamish, BC.

  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Leverage the training program to establish safety as a core value in all activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a training program, in close collaboration with subject matter experts, management, and stakeholders, to identify training needs, learning objectives, and competency gaps.
  • Establish and administer a training competency matrix that clearly identifies training, qualification and competency requirements for each position.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, management and other stakeholders to determine the requirements for achieving training, qualification, competency and recertification interval/requirement for each competency.
  • Develop and maintain training material for internally delivered training. Ensure training material is kept up to date and remains relevant as processes, equipment and systems change.
  • Develop and support CE’s on-boarding program including first week/first month training plan development and mentorship program.
  • Lead by example by providing guidance and mentorship to all levels of operations to promote and embed a continuous learning environment.
  • Facilitate and perform regular effective training activities (hands-on, practical demonstrations, and equipment operation exercises) to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Develop, facilitate, and perform training and competency assessments, tests, and practical evaluations to measure trainees' comprehension and proficiency.
  • Utilize internal and external resources to deliver training, depending on topic and specialist knowledge/certification requirements (e.g. mobile equipment, confined space entry).
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging trainee participation, and addressing questions and concerns effectively.
  • Monitor trainee progress in accordance with their training profile, identify additional training needs and engage with Production Manager consistently.
  • Develop and execute an assurance process for the training program to ensure effectiveness/robustness and sustainability.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement of the training program through solicitation of feedback from key stakeholders on material, methods, or delivery techniques.
  • Keep informed with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure training materials remain current and relevant.
  • Collaborate with HR and HSE to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of training plans, completion, competency, currency, recertification, and competency gaps.
  • Generate and distribute reports on training metrics, program effectiveness, and Operations progress for management review.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of related industry experience
  • Minimum Grade 12 or GED. Strong preference for technical degree or diploma.
  • Operations background with a passion for sharing knowledge.
  • Experience providing formal operations training or mentoring is an asset.
  • Knowledge in the following would be considered an asset:
    1. Ignition
    2. Fiix
    3. Seeq
    4. SAP
    5. Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
    6. LIMS
    7. Trendminer
    8. Incident Reporting
    9. Management of Change
  • Strong understanding of, and aptitude for, Production Operations in a chemical plant. Experience in an R&D environment would be an asset.
  • Control panel experience highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and explain P&ID’s, SOP’s, Process Control Narratives, Test plans.
  • Solid grasp in anticipating operational outcomes when executing process changes and ability to verbalize in a coaching/learning environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Compensation and Benefits

Carbon Engineering offers a competitive compensation package including extended health benefits. Base Salary for an Intermediate to Senior level role is $86,700 to $122,850 with additional bonus pay. Carbon Engineering also provides benefits and paid time off.
